Counter march is an alternative to pulleys and shaft horses. When pulleys are tied up, the shafts "balance" against each other, while with counter marching they are raised and lowered independently of each other.

The advantage of countermarching is that the warp becomes straighter and better, which is especially valuable when you weave with many shafts, have an odd number of shafts or delicate material in the warp. Counter march also gives you better balance on the shafts when you have a narrow warp in a wide loom or an uneven distribution of the number of threads on the shafts.

Counter march is available in two designs, with two groups of horizontal top plates or one group of vertical ones. Both fulfill the same function.
