Countermarch is an alternative to lams and jack looms. In a counterbalanced loom, shafts balance each other, whereas in a countermarch loom, they are raised and lowered independently.

The advantage of a countermarch loom is that the shed becomes straight and better, which is particularly valuable when weaving with many shafts, having an odd number of shafts, or using delicate warp material. Countermarch also improves shaft balance when you have a narrow warp in a wide loom or an uneven distribution of threads on the shafts.

Countermarch comes in two designs: with two groups of horizontal top lams or one group of vertical lams. Both serve the same function.

NOTE! Heddles and cords are only included with counterbalanced looms.
